Surviving Hitler’s Germany

Willow Valley Resident Eleanor Isaacson’s book Dancing from Darkness is her story of surviving WWII and thriving.  Eleanor spoke and held a book signing at the July meeting of the Rotary Club of Lancaster.

Eleanor grew up in Hitler’s Germany and experienced the infamous bombing of Dresden first-hand. Separated from her parents at the age of 2, she experienced all the horrors of war and the Nazi Regime. She arrived in the United States alone in 1948 at the age of 13.

In wartime no child experiences a normal childhood. Eleanor shares her school experiences under Nazi teachers in Germany from 1940-1945. Schools were like military training camps. “Heil Hitler” was the salute greeting to all teachers in the classroom as well as on the street.

Eleanor says her past does not define who she is but it has helped shape her character and she often has the chance to use the struggles of life to connect with people today. “My passion is to bring joy into the lives of others. I enjoy dancing, singing and fashion design, but especially helping others discover the wonderful life they were designed to have!” (source: Rotary Club of Lancaster)
