We’re excited to donate a “Keys for the City” painted piano for the third summer in a row. Our “Join the Movement” piano is located at The Ware Center, 42 North Prince Street in downtown Lancaster.
“Keys for the City” is a project created by Music For Everyone (MFE), a local non-profit charitable
organization that raises money and awareness for music programs in Lancaster County, particularly focused on music education in the schools. Sponsoring organizations donate funds for pianos and design and paint them for a city-wide exhibit created to spark spontaneous and interactive musical creativity. The art on the pianos – all 14 of them scattered around downtown Lancaster landmarks provides a fun musical atmosphere for all to enjoy. Once again this year, our Willow Valley piano was designed by Creative and Interactive Designer, Chris Corrao.
“Over the past seven summers, Lancastrians have embraced and cared for these pianos in a way that has been inspiring. That’s why we call Lancaster the “Street Piano Capital of the World,” said John Gerdy, Executive Director of Music For Everyone. “Whether people stop by to play a few notes or an entire piece, there will be thousands of magical, musical moments that will occur around those pianos this summer. This project is a literal expression of what this organization is all about – Music For Everyone.”
Pianos will be on display through the end of September. We hope you’ll take time to visit and play some tunes in downtown Lancaster this summer.
