Dale Ziegler likes to tell the story that his mother always said he could draw before he could walk.
Art is something that comes natural to him, it always has. Dale’s thoughts about art continue to flow especially now that he has reached his 91st birthday. “I have many ideas about subjects that I’d like to paint in the future” he said.
Although Dale has worked in many media, watercolor remains his favorite. Living and painting in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, he is known for his interpretations of the surrounding lush farmlands and the local Amish community. He describes himself as a regional artist, painting what he loves and knows best. He works in the traditional watercolor manner, –a direct approach with luminous, transparent colors.
After three years of army service in World War II, Dale studied at the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art (now the University of the Arts). He first worked in Lancaster as a graphic designer then as a corporate creative director in Greenwich, Connecticut. He and his wife moved to Willow Valley Communities in 2005 where he continues to paint.
Dale is a n award winning , signature member of the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, and an honorary life member of both the Baltimore Watercolor Society, and the Philadelphia Watercolor Society. He donates a painting each year to the benefit auction for Lancaster Hospice.
Dale has been invited by Mulberry Art Galleries in Lancaster to exhibit his watercolors through the month of September, 2015. The show is titled “Dale Ziegler, still active in his 90’s” . Please drop by and meet Dale, he will be there to greet you at the First Friday Reception on September, 4th from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
