We recently installed 2 electric car charging stations, one on the Manor Campus and one on our Lakes Campus, adding another ‘green’ initiative to our communities.
Numbers of electric cars at our communities will most likely increase as their benefits become better known. There are currently about a dozen electric cars owned by both Willow Valley residents and team members.
Electric cars are propelled by electric motors using electrical energy stored in rechargeable batteries or another energy storage device. By not emitting tailpipe pollutants, they help reduce local air pollution and total greenhouse gas and other emissions. Using hybrid and plug-in electric vehicles instead of conventional vehicles can also help reduce U.S. reliance on imported petroleum.
It’s easy for residents and team members to use the charging stations simply by becoming a member of Willow Valley Communities electric vehicle charging program and then gaining access to the stations either through the SemaConnect network or a smartphone application. Users are able to see, in real-time, the availability and status of each charging station via the phone app.
Our charging stations were recently featured in a Lancaster Newspaper article by Jennifer Kopf. You can read her article here.
