Bob Jeffers is a Security Officer with Willow Valley Communities and he takes his position very seriously. But Bob has been able to find a beautiful way to relax when he’s not on the job.
Bob embroiders breathtaking safari scenes on fabric creating gorgeous detailed pictures. Using different colored thread, he intricately sews the most minute details of every lion, every zebra, elephant and gazelle.
Bob and his wife Esther, were missionaries in Tanzania, East Africa for about 33 years. While there, Bob wanted to do something to relax in the evening. He already knew how to sew. (Bob had in fact made some of the clothing for their four children.) So that was a natural start. And being in Africa gave him the subject matter. “I found that I liked working with thread, embroidery especially, and decided I wanted to do pictures of African animals.”
Now in Lancaster, Bob gets inspiration for his creations through magazines and the internet. He first sketches his ideas on paper. Once he is satisfied with his design he draws freehand directly onto the fabric. Then he stitches the scene onto the fabric using just the right color and texture thread in order to create the perfect effect. Each picture takes Bob months to complete but the end result is always an amazing and inspiring piece of art work to be treasured. Bob enjoys giving the pictures away as gifts to his family members – especially to his ten grandchildren as birthday presents.
